Yikebike

I was happy to see a new concept in personal urban mobility. This is a carbon fibre, electrically powered, crazy-mobile! You sit on the center saddle, and the handles are at your sides. Put your feet on the pegs, and hold on. The cool thin is that it folds into itself and is very light to carry with either the clip on strap or the bag. Not cheap, but definitely a good vision of an alternative to the traditional way of doing things.

Issec

I love the thinking behind this! In the bottom right you can see the custom designed aluminium extrusion profile used to make this bike. The walls connecting the four smaller tubes is removed, and the single extrusion makes up the top- and down-tubes, which continue past the seat tube and become the seat- and chain-stays (respectively). Well thought out! (lets just hope its not more labour to separate the tubes than was saved by combining them)

NuVinci

Their CVP (Continuously Variable Planetary) Transmission hub has a smooth range of gearing with no clicks. Just twist a little, or a lot, to get the effect you want. This is new tech in the bike industry, with applications in all sorts of other industries like cars, machinery, and more. One idea - imagine having a bike that always allowed you to pedal at your ideal frequency (cadence). Just put a controller on this thing to continuously adapt the gear position to try to match your cadence. Cool!

SR Suntour

This was one of several enclosed drivetrain bikes at the show. This one uses a Suntour internal geared hub enclosed just above the bottom bracket. Its a nice way to get more of the weight out of the wheels (ie. less unsprung weight), and to keep the drivetrain smoothly shifting and free of dirt. More of this kind are appearing as a standard mounting system and more interest has come up recently. I think this particular frame was by Bergamont.
